vacation

I have a few days left here in Williamsburg, and I've been having a great time! Jon's 21st birthday was on Saturday, and a bunch of us went out to dinner at an incredible italian restaurant and then went to a party off-campus. Yesterday, Jon, Kittens, Adam and I went to Virginia Beach, about an hour away, and spent the afternoon playing in the waves and enjoying the sun. The past week has actually seemed like a vacation to me... I've been staying up really late and waking up at noon. It feels great to lay out in the sun and walk around the William and Mary campus and colonial Williamsburg, discovering new areas and buildings. I've met so many people, and they're all so welcoming of this crazy girl from Wisconsin... I am definitely coming back to visit whenever I get a chance!

hot hot hot!

Williamsburg, VA... it's hot like woah, that's for sure. After leaving Madison on Saturday with Jon and Kittens, we drove about ten hours and then stopped in Parkersville, WV. After driving seven more hours on Sunday, we arrived at William and Mary and began to unload the car. Today, finally, we started to get the room in order. The two boys had a lot to say, and we chatted quite a bit throughout the drive... it was a pleasant surprise! :)

Overall, the trip has been fun so far... I'll be leaving for DC on August 31st.

pensamientos

Two days until I leave... Amid all the shopping, packing and worrying, I've had time to think about what this semester will mean to me. Despite the fact that this is, surprisingly, my first extended stay away from Madison, it seems to me that it's about time. Although I greatly appreciate all that Madison has given me, for years I have wanted to get away and make something of myself in a place where no one knew me. Through difficulty and through change, one begins to know oneself. I only want this semester to be what I have been hoping for. But only I can make it happen, right? I can't wait!
