Nosce Te Ipsum

"The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one's own country as a foreign land." -G.K. Chesterton

Things I've learned about Qatar:

1. "Wasta" is a connection to someone powerful or important. It's about who you know and your relationships that can help you get places. Equivalent to an "old boys club" that can get you past red tape or into anywhere you otherwise would not be allowed.

2. Rent is about $2,246 (QR8,200) for a three-bedroom apartment in Doha, the capital.

3. In Qatar, 25 degrees Celsius is cold. That's 77 degrees fahrenheit.
